Edasseri
had said,
" I have not written even a single line in my life without
remembering Gandhiji."
He adds somewhere else,
"I am a believer, but when I write about hunger and aversion the
divine spirituality and respect for the philosophies part with me. The
poet, who swear on Gandhiji often has his
poems strewn with ideals that either contradict Gandhiji or even
question divine belief."
This contradiction is quite evident from more than one poem of Edasseri,
e.g. "Budhanum Nhanum Nariyum', 'Bimbisarante Edayan', 'Mullan
Cheera' and especially in this poem 'Mappilla.'
